Storm Sign 5 before Roster Freeze

Familiar Faces Hope to Help The Storm...Storm Through 2012 Post Season.
Santa Clarita, California June 22nd 2012-As the Santa Clarita Storm are thundering into the NPSL Western Regional playoffs & are reinforcing their roster, finalizing several last minute signings before the roster freeze deadline that quickly approaches.

Futbol Club Santa Clarita announces the signing of forward Artie Lawson of Valencia, Defender Allen Gutierrez, and Rafael Fuentes a Midfielder from Canyon Country. Three local players that will fill in and help strengthen the Storm’s already dense bench. “They are good players and they will help us to finish strong” said Coach Meza; who is a first year coach with the Storm and thus far has lead his team to second place in the NPSL
South West Conference with a 6-3-2 record. The Storm has also added two more familiar faces to the organization as these two have played with the club in the Antelope Valley since 2007; before the club relocating to Santa Clarita and re-branding itself.

Jesus Lopez Midfielder

Mauricio Harrie Forward
Jesus Lopez; a defensive midfielder - played and started for the Antelope Valley team for three years logging in over 3,500 minutes and playing in over 37 games within those three years. Lopez became a mainstay to the team’s midfield.

Mauricio Harrie has also been with the club since the beginning in 2007 until 2010. Harrie also logged in over 3,500 minutes in the three season and gathering over 36 points.

Coach Meza is looking beyond the season end, we must be ready for the playoffs, and anything can happen. That is why we need more good players heading into the playoff race. Adding these five extra players at this point in the race, we are sure we can stay strong and be a serious presence this post season. “It’s always good to have a strong
bench, because you never know when you are going to need it” said Meza.

The Storm will play the Rangers Sunday in a 5pm match that will be a playoff level game. The game will be in Santa Ana at the Santa Ana Stadium at 5p.m. The Rangers have a record of 6-2-3 & only sit one point behind the Storm with three games left in the regular season -  a possible 9 points to be earned you can guarantee it’s going to be a game you don’t want to miss this Sunday night. The Rangers must win to take second place away     from the Storm, as the Storm must at least tie to maintain their second place position.

Boca Narrowly Escape The Storm

Santa Clarita, California, June 9, 2012. - After a unexpected change in venue to Golden Valley High School from Hart High this week, the game was a typical rematch from opening day of the 2012 season when the Storm jumped to a quick lead in the first half 2-0 only to see it disappear and the game end in a tie. This game wasn't much different except the totals at the end where 1-1 left each team with a point a piece.Storm expected a tough match with Boca coming in with a record of 3-2-1 for the season and the Storm sitting in secondteam pic june 2012 place in the Southern Conference with a record of 5-2-2 and the playoffs in site. The match saw many one vs one battles with a lot of incomplete passes and turnovers, as both teams were fighting to get on the board first.

It only took the Storm 23 minutes to take that lead and it was Alex Harlley who put his team up by one. In the 23rd minute of play; defender Robbie Gouk spotted Harlley open on the right side of the keeper, with a long pass from the defensive third of the field, Gouk launched a pass right to Harlley who brought the pass down to his feet, took a move or too around a defender and sent a rocket right past the flat footed 'keeper and put the Storm up 1 - 0 in the half.

The second half started out exactly as the first ended, except midfielder Matt Shaxton for the Storm was substituted because of a bruise on his heel. And the Storm seem off a bit at the start of
the second half, the Boca came out very aggressive and continued to pressure &again a bit of the back and fourth play went on. In the57th minute of play Boca broke lose and took advantage of a
miscue in was is normally a very solid defense of the Storm and Boca's Jammel Wallace took advantage of that and tied the score. The Storm starting pressuring and had a number of
opportunities but could not capitalize on them. Tyler Coombes hit a bullet from 20 yards out the rocket pass everyone on and looked like a for sure game winner, to have it only hit the side post & bounced back in to the field of play, Newly signed Mauricio Harrie had three shots on goal with one just saved by the Boca 'keeper to dine Harrie.
 Game Summary
Shots -Storm 15, Boca 9
Goals - Storm 1, Boca 1
Fouls- Storm 10-, Boca 15
Saves -Storm Steven Rodriguez 9, Boca Ortiz 4, Morehead 4

The Storm will now go on the road for the next two weeks as they travel to Arizona to take on the Monsoons (0-0-10) on the 16th of  June and then will go to Fullerton where they will take on the Rangers (4-2-3) with 15 points and presently in third place in the Western Conference.
The Storm returns home on June 30th at Canyon High School and will host F.C. Hasental in a 5pm match. Followed on July 7th in the last game of the season that could be a real thriller as the Storm will take on the First place Flash in another 5pm match.
